i just downloaded the app. when i open it it shows just a white screen, theres a small box that shows the auther of one book but the book will not open. ive set the application permissions in security and also tried deleting and reloading the app but still no luck. HELP
@Paul Robertson,
Sorry, Playepub does not support pdf files.
There is no difference between trial and full version, but trial works only for five days.
@Mick,
Please, attach one of those files and let me test.
@Michael,
What do you propose? I don’t know how Kobo works that way.
@Mick,
Would it be enough to increase text selectors size?
@Mohamed,
Sorry, there is no offline manual. You could copy online docs into a doc and save it.
What is the difference between the trial version and the aid version?
Does Playepub support pdf files? I thought I saw that on the Help file, but when I browse to the folder that has pdf’s I don’t see them. Also does it support search in pdf’s.
I have found that when loading books with navigation pages that have chapters and verses, some of the links are broken, and sometimes it gets stuck on a page and I have to close the app and reopen to get working again.
Would be nice to get this fixed.
Hi, if many ebooks on the PB, its hard to find out whats already read, or started and not finished. Is there any way to see this / find out (like in Kobo reader)? This would be great! Thanks.
Hi, I like the way you can highlight text, but is it possible to make selecting a color easier as the squares are so small its hard to select the one you want.
I purchased the app for playbook and I need to have the manual offline for offline quick reference . Can you send it to me or the address to download it on my playbook.
Thank you for a great app.
@JT Peh,
I’ll see what I can do.
There is a screen refresh which will take 2-3 seconds when moving to next chapter. Possible to pre-load the next few pages in memory first. It’s kind of annoying to wait for screen refresh before continue reading. Thanks
@Karen,
Checkout this settins:
On main playbook desktop, swipe down to show main menu->Security->Application Permissions->PlayEpub
And check this:

i down loaded the trial version and it worked great. All of my books immediately appeared in the library. Today I bought it and now all my books are gone. I’ve tried redownloading them, but I still can’t find them.
@Deb,
I assume you have scrolled down icons on main desktop or right for next desktop?
The icon might not be visible but it should be there.
@reteP,
You don’t have the right settings.
Try this:
http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/gg316699.aspx
or google for info. I think it should be port 995 with SSL.
I am trying to set up email as follows:
POP3 Host: pop3.live.com
Port: 110
Username:*******@L***.com
Password:**********
and its telling me there is an error. Is the POP3 Host correct? I also tried pop.live.com
Thanks for looking at my problem. I actually finally got some pages to open late last night from this book but my connection is slow so it was taking a long time.
I am back working on this again and when I turned my Playbook on this morn, the icon for PlayEpub was gone. When I go to My App World, it does say that it is installed and my permissions is set to allowed. I have deleted PlayEpub and re-installed again as per a previous message I found. It is still not showing up on the PB.
@Alex,

@Deb,
Sorry, I can not reproduce your issue, your file is opening fine on my Playbook, see this screenshots:

I don’t know what could it be the problem…
I just download the PlayePub, I drag some epub file into “books” folder in my Playbook. But I don’t know how to see the file in the Playepub and how to import?
Sorry, anxious to read and was going over all the comments. Found that I was to upload file so am doing that now. As mentioned before, I have transferred “epub” format books to Playbook but all that will open is the cover page and sometimes, the title page. Have kept trying with different books and the same thing happens. The whole book will open on my main computer, though.

I am having the same problem as Erin. I only show the cover page and the main title page on PlayEPub on Playbook. However, when I click on the book on my main system – all the pages are there.
What am I doing wrong??
@Tom sparkes,
What do you mean with “has gone”?
The app is gone
@Erin,
Could you please send me one of those books?
I uploaded two epub files into book reader and the image for the books appear, but when I go to read them, it’s just a blank screen. My friend has this app as well and he can see these books.

I guess to be more precise, a “series” button added next to the “author” “date” buttons?
So…anyway to sort books by series (without connecting to computer) coming soon? 😉
Where is the PlayEpub main menu? When the app boots up, all I get is the “Books” menu and I can’t navigate anywhere else.
I purchased the app but do not see any books I have on my Playbook. Where is the main menu? When the app boots up I am always at the book search screen and I can’t navigate anywhere where else.
@Mike,
Sad to say this but… never.
Drm depends on an Adobe technology and a license. I have contacted them many times without any response. Only bigs like Sony,Acer… Have that license. I think we will never have a drm reader on Playbook.
I depend on library ebooks. When will you have dmr locked books
@Dr. Bryan Sweet
Please, send me one of those files and let me test.
I purchased the PlayEpub last evening. I have several drm-removed ebooks (epub) in the documents of the BPlaybook. Nothing happens, when I tap on the books they are inert. What is supposed to happpen? Its not happening. Thanks in advance.
@eDoug,
Can you see any other folder or file in file browser? I mean, is this new file the only one you can’t see?
Are you sure it has “.epub” extension?
I recently tried to add a epub file into the Books directory so that playepub could pick it up. At the same time I deleted two books that I had completed reading.
Issue 1: I can not see the new epub file, what is the ending required so that your app will pick it up?
Issue 2: When I deleted the old books, your app still by miracle brought them up after a error message saying
“PlayEpub can not read your shared files. You have probable denied File permission when you installed PlayEpub. Please reinstall PlayEpub granting permission.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
…Doug..
Oops, sorry, there is a simpler way to avoid the firewall problem. Just make sure that your PB’s wifi and bluetooth are turned off when you connect by USB.
Something I should add to the comment #3728 above, in case anyone is reading it and trying to follow the instructions. If you are reading it on your PC’s web browser, you might not be able to connect the PlayBook by USB. On my PC, there is some firewall conflict that blocks the connection until I close the web browser. I don’t know if that is true for everybody’s browser and everybody’s firewall. If you want to be able to read the comment, you might have to copy it into WordPad or something and then close the browser.
If that is too much fuss, you might achieve the same result by unplugging your internet connection.
@DavidM,
Very complete! But from my point, what Chris was talking about is clasify “opened books” (with previws) not just files, but your solution is a good one too.
I like your suggestion of “add folder” in contextual menu. Added to my TODO 🙂
@editor
If I have understood Chris correctly, I think that he/she could sort his/her books into series by creating a subfolder for each series, either within the author’s folder, or in “home\books” (if the series includes works by more than one author). This can be done when the PlayBook is connected to a Windows PC by the USB cable, using Blackberry Device Manager.
The PlayBook’s “home” folder shows up in Windows as network drive “Z”, and subfolders can be created in it the same way as you would in the “C” drive. Books can then be copied into a newly created “series folder”, and the books’ names can be changed to start with each book’s number in the series. (If there are more than 9 books in a series, the numbers 1 – 9 should be written with a leading zero, for example “06 – Title” for the sixth book. That will keep them in the correct order when listed. If there are more than 99 books, they should start with two leading zeroes at number 001.) I assume that something similar will work with a Mac computer.
How practical would it be for you to include subfolder creation in a future version of PlayEpub’s File Browser? With the operations of copying, pasting and renaming that you have already provided, it would then be possible to do all of the sorting into series within PlayEpub itself, without needing the USB connection to a computer. Hopefully, RIM will eventually include all of these operations in an update of the ridiculous File Manager they have provided for the PlayBook.
@John H,
After dictionary, text search is the next main feature I’m working on 🙂
@Jon perkins,
It can’t be. Link button appears only when you make long tap on a link. If it was shown always, it would be useless the most of the times.
Could you please add a text search option to the navigation bar? I often read the same book on different devices (and with different readers). I use text search with a short phrase to find my reading location on the different device.
Thanks.
It would be nice if you could add the links button to the group of buttons that contained the highlight button, because when trying to bring up the link button it often brings up the other set of buttons.
Thanks
please just ignore, I had to set the application permission for PlayEpub.
I purchased an ebook from a German website Rowohlt, converted it to epub format using Adobe Digital Editions, then removed the drm using Calibre with plugins, and finally copied the file to the ‘books’ shared folder on my playbook. I can see that the book is in the folder, but PlayEpub can’t find it.
What could be the reason?
