There are three different versions of Playepub:

  • v.1.x: Playbook
  • v.2.x: Blackberry 10 prior to OS10.3.1 (without maintenance)
  • v.3.x: Blackberry 10 from OS10.3.1

Some features might apply only to Playbook or BB10 devices.

  • Compatible with Playbook and Blackberry 10 devices. Buy once, install any times on any supported device. When using the same Blackberry ID you can install Playepub on any device including Playbook without being charged again.
  • Can read any non DRM-protected epub, Kindle formats and FB2 book.
  • Supports .epub, .mobi, .pdb, .prc, .azw, .fb2 files.
  • Multilanguage. If available, uses your device language, defaults to english.
    • BB10: Spanish, English, German, Vietnamese, Chinese.
    • Playbook: Spanish, English, Russian, Dutch
  • Portrait and landscape modes with auto-rotation. You can lock the rotation to prevent accidental rotations.
  • Shelves-like home screen. Or list mode if you prefer this. You can also sort the books by title, autor or last time read.
  • Read with a book-like style pagination, tap screen for next/previous page, swipe right/left for next/previous chapter. You can configure your experience to use swipe gestures to change page or chapter. This is extremely useful when reading news books as usually each news is a new chapter.
  • Basic 3D page flip effect on BB10.
  • Customize the screen for your eyes: font, size, margin, line separation, brightness, day/night/sepia mode.
  • Full text selection, copy or share it.
  • Text highlight with notes and bookmarks.
  • Integrated dictionary (online). You can add notes directly from dictionary results for later review.
  • Table of contents navigation.
  • Main screen book cover preview (when available).
  • Only on Playbook: Direct download epubs from your email account. If you use any software like Calibre that lets you send by email daily news, this is a great feature.
  • Sync articles with your Pocket account.
  • Sync articles with your Feedly account.
  • Sync articles with your Instapaper account.
  • Daily automated sync with these external services. Get everything downloaded when you wake up.
  • Integrated external library navigation and epub download.
  • Direct OPDS catalog integration (BB10 only), browse and download books for public services with a full BB10 experience. Comes with a lot of public catalogs and you can add your own new ones.
  • Integrated multilanguage translator (online). Select any word in the text and translate it to any language. You can add notes from translator results to later review.
  • Shows pictures on books and let you click on links.
  • Cloud Sync for syncing your books between different devices (reading point, bookmarks, notes, highlights).
  • Text to Speech (BB10 only), listen to any book as it was an audiobook.
  • Collections support. You can group your books as you want creating something like “folders”.
  • BBM integration for sharing “cites” with your contacts or use on your BBM profile.
  • Automatically open new books (BB10 only). Configure the folders you want to scan and Playepub will siently look for new not opened books each time you open it.
  • Search for text on any book to find any character, topic or section you want to read again.
  • Three reading modes: day, night and sepia.
  • Online synchronization for bookmarks, highlights, notes and current reading position with all your Blackberry supported device.
  • Easy navigation inside the book. You can change to any position on the book using the navigation slider, go back to previous reading points (that might not be the previous page in the book), tap on links to go to other position on the book…
  • Completely BB10 experience with OS integration (only BB10). Supported formats are registered in the OS to be opened by Playepub if you select any of them in the file explorer, from browser downloads or from email hub.
  • Keyboard shortcuts on devices with physical keyboard.
  • Extra configurations:
    • Prevent standby: to keep the device on while you read.
    • Prevent rotation: to lock the rotation
    • Use volume keys to change pages: make long press on volume up/down buttons to next/previous pages.
    • Enable/disable 3D page flip animation
    • Define swipe gesture behaviour: change pages or chapters
    • On Passport you can decide how you want to control the app (one of them must be active at least):
      • Enable/disable screen gestures
      • Enable/disable touch keyboard
