TTS not working.
when i play text to speach it said no internet connection. i own a passport SE
@Editor, thanks for responding.
There is the other major thing about playepub, that it does not work at all on my Passport. Whenever supplied with an epub file, the screen just turns blank and then nothing happens.
I tried both ‘Bulk Import’ & ‘New Book’, but the results are the same.
Please help me.
@Mohammed,
Does that happen with any epub file? Have you tried others?
Have you allowed “shared files” permission? You can check it on your device->settings->security
I just purchased for Playepub which I did primarily to be able to sync my last read positions but am not able to find where to create a Playepub account. Could you please help me for the same?
@Mohammed,
In the Sync screen, in the login form, add your email and password, if there is no account for that email a new one will be created with that password.
Thanks – problem solved. I couldn’t get to file browser menu. This link http://playepub.com/quick-help/local-library/ helped.
Odd, but I do not have a menu across the bottom as shown at the link, and do not have a “New Book” icon.
@Jon Lowrence,
Playbook works different as BB10. On Playbook you have the file browser to tap and open a book, on BB10 you have to launch browser with that “new book” button.
Hello. I loaded approx 50 new books onto my Playbook, they are in the “books” folder, but can not figure how how to get them onto my Playepub Book Reader book shelf.
Thank you.
Jon
@Jon Lowrance,
You have to first “open” each book you want to read.
http://playepub.com/quick-help/local-library/
My. PlayBook had to be reset and I lost my playepub. How can I reset it?
@Rick,
Just download it again from Blackberry World. You don’t have to pay again.
I want to download a KOBO ebook which comes in an EPUB 2 format. Can Playepub read that?
@David Grandy,
It should, just try it 🙂
Thank you for the fast reply. I do not know how to sideload apps on Playbook but you can send me the bar installation file and few explanations.
Thank you again
I tried so many time to get Playepub on my second Playbook (It is already unstalled on my first Playbook) but this purchase could not be completed. I get always : Please select a different payment method.
when I now try to modify the payment method from CC to PayPal and try to login to paypal after that entering the login details and hit enter the dialog just disappears…. What could be the problem?
I tried to clean the cache like you told and restart and restart but no effect.
Any alternative way to unstall the application ?
I need answer ASAP because I bought this second playbook for the birthday of my son.
Thank you
@Vidal,
I can’t really help you on that process, it is all on Blackberry side. From my point Playbook is completely unsupported right now on Blackberry.
If you know how to sideload apps on Playbook I can send you the bar installation file…
I have configured playepub to sync my readitlater. It seems to work okay as it syncs away, the only problem is that I cannot see where to read the articles ! There is no book called pocket or anything similar. Nor can I find where it Playepub synced the documents on my memory. Any ideas ?
@Warren McLean,
BB10 or Playbook?
@Warren McLean,
Well, it seems that Pocket has migrating its API to v3 (I use V2) and something strange is happening now.
It works for me and retrieves articles, but those articles are not available when I log into my Pocket account, as if when the moved from V2 to V3 everything had started from scratch.
I’ll try to move to V3 API… please give some weeks.

@Kevin Doyle,
I’ve tried it and it loads, but it takes a litle bit.
The problem is that books is really bad formated, it seems to be a web page packed as a book, with many references to non existent javascript and css files. There is nothing I can do, but you might try to clean that book using Calibre and opening it again. Might be a solution, non perfect, but a solution anyway.
I have had PlayePub on my BB Playbook since I purchased it in 2012.
Recently I downloaded some ePub books from Guttenberg via Calibre to my device.
However they don’t seem to want to open.
When I access from the File browser list I get a white screen with the Title (Author) at the top, a rotating circle timer and on the bottom a thin bar showing 100% at the right. However the book never opens. I know the book is there and I can see it to read on the calibre website. What is the problem.
@Kevin Doyle,
Please, send me one of those files and let me test.
Hi: I purchased Playepub as a reader for my Feedly account on my Playbook. However, I’m not able to make Playepub synch with Feedly. I’ve signed into Feedly and set Playepub to synch at a certain time, but nothing happens (even with the app minimized). Can I synch manually? Not sure what else to do. I can open books on my Playbook hard drive, but cannot synch. I thought maybe it takes awhile, but the Playbook goes to sleep after 5 minutes. Can you help?
@Jon Dart,
Well Playbook’s version has not been updated for a while, something might be broken with Feedly. Please, let me do some tests.
@Jon Dart,
I’ve tested Feedly and works fine.
You can sync manualy with the last buton on the right in main screen toolbar, try it and let me know.
nope…’This purchase could not be completed. Please select a different payment method.
when I now try to modify the payment method from CC to PayPal and try to login to paypal after that entering the login details and hit enter the dialog just disappears….
any alternative way you can think of to facilitate making a payment via paypal separately and you provide a coupon code to enter to bypass the payment will be helpful – if that is feasible… thanks.
yes tried rinse/repeat of such for more than reasonable permutations/combinations…
@bBpBpP_User,
Does it reply with any error number or something like that?
hoping to get help from Scott that was able to purchase this app from playbook as I’m not able to. neither payment options worked 🙁
@bBpBpP_User,
Have you tried restarting your Playbook or reseting cache?
I purchased Playepub to read digital downloaded books from the library, but the .acsm file format is not recognized by Palepub. I have authorized Playepub for all security settings. Will Playepub read .acsm files?
@Scott,
Sorry but no, it won’t. Playepub can read epub, fb2 and Kinddle formats.
You can try converting acsm files into epub, that will work fine.
http://www.epubor.com/convert-acsm-to-epub.html
how do i bring up the file browser to add ebooks?
@Carleen,
Which platform? Which screen are you in?
When I open playepub, your opening page immediately goes to the assistance manual which I downloaded a few days ago. Then I cannot get out of that book to see any commands at the top. I am not given the chance to open anything.
@Dough David,
You are probably reading that book.
Tap on top title or bottom % bar to show navigation bar and go home.
I have purchased playepub on my BB Playbook. I have epub books on my laptop and cannot get them into my Playbook. I do have the Blackberry Desktop Software installed on my Playbook, but cannot get the ebooks into the Playbook to read.
@Dough David,
I assume you have copied your books into your Playbook.
Can’t you see your books within Playepub’s file browser? On Playepub, books are not opened automatically, you have to open and add to the library each book you want to read first using the file browser.
Hi
Yes,its just this book. I don’t have a problem with this book’s font size on desktop using Adobe digital editions.
Any options for me?
Thanks
@Vincent,
Please, sent it to me and let me test.
Hi
I have an Epub file, that I am unable to increase the font size to a point where it is comfortably legible. The font slider is set to the far right. Thanks for any guidance you can offer.

@Vincent,
Is this happening only on that book?
It seems as if the book was forcing the font size blocking the system to work.
Unable to change font size on a z10 and Epub file.
Hi, I have been using your app for a while and I love it but my blackberry tablet is not working as good any more. I want to take my books from you app and use is on an other device. They are stored under books and that is the only folder I am not able to sinc with my pc. Is there a way to take those books out of this folder and store them in say downloads to I can reach them by using the blackberry desktop tool?
@Maaike,
I don’t know why this can be happening, this is a OS issue.
You can try moving the files from “Books” to “Downloads” using Playepub file browser. Select the files you want to move and choose “move”, go to “downloads” folder and selecte “paste”. Does it work?
First, Thank you for keeping this going. I have been using Playepub for years and don’t know what I would do without it. I don’t have an issue, per se, just a couple of questions regarding epub3.
Will you be adding the epub3 format to Playepub for the Playbook?
Is there, or will there be, the ability to change the book view from 1 page to 2 pages? For example, I purchased The Invention of Hugo Cabret. It is an epub3 book that is meant to display as an open book with the picture going across both pages. Playepub renders it, but only one page at a time, so I can only see half of the picture.
Thank you,
Kendra
@Kendra,
It’s not expected to have a two page view on phones although it does in Playbook, a phone is too small for a two page view.
If you send me an epub3 book I can do some tests.
Can you please add a dark theme (white lettering on black background) option? This is much better for bedtime reading. Thanks!
@Paul,
Swipe down, change theme.
Help is your friend 🙂
i have just bought the app in bbz3
how i can go back to home screen when reading a book.
@iman,
Just tap on top title or bottom % bar to show main activity bar and go back.
Reading the manual is always good 🙂
Hi
I’m having issues syncing with pocket. Playepub says it’s activated but when I start sync it does nothing. It just say syncing. It goes o like that for hours where I then just close the app.
When it has synced what is it supposed to look like?
Is there a setting to change or maybe I’m doing something wrong to get this to work.
@genghis,
Please, let me do some tests, maybe something is broken.
Hi Jesus,
purchased Playepub on playbook and got it automatically when i got my Q5. Downloaded all updates over the last months on both devices, everything worked fine. But the last update does not, i always get a network error on my Q5.
So this is what i did:
– restarted Q5
– resetted Blackberry world
– restarted Q5 again
Nothing helps, so i deinstalled Playepub (deinstall, not delete). Now i can’t even reinstall the old version, i always get the network error.
It’s only Playepub, tried to install or reinstall several other apps, they all worked fine.
Kind regards
Axel
@Axel,
It seems there are problems with the installacion and update processes on Blackberry World these last days. I don’t really know why, that’s a Blackberry problem.
On my Z10 I had the same issue yesterday morning and it worked fine during the afternoon. I can only tell you to keep trying. It’s a Blackberry World issue.
Here suggest to start the download using mobile data and then change to wifi…
http://forums.crackberry.com/blackberry-10-apps-f274/blackberry-world-network-error-how-can-i-fix-1043884/
http://forums.crackberry.com/blackberry-world-f299/download-failed-network-error-bbw-1043950/
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-World-Development/Can-not-update-and-app-world-crash/td-p/3145672
Just to let you all know, @Axel has sent me an email:
@Jesus,
Tip at the end of the last email did the trick:
– turned wifi off
– turned off “download by wifi only” in BBW
– started download by mobile data (network error has not occured)
– turned wifi on
– download continues by wifi
– installation successful
So if you are having this network issue problem, this might help you.
Loaded a Kindle book into playepub on Blackberry Classic, but have lost a few letters from the right side of each page.? The text size is already set to minimum…..can you help?
Thanks
@Simon,
Please, send me that book and let me test.
@Editor,
Thanks for the update. I believe the power consumption issue has been resolved – the app is now at 0.08% and not even in the top ten on the battery usage list and that I with approx. hour of reading since the last charge. This is on my Q5.
Thanks again! Won’t have to charge midday anymore like all those “i” users.
Scott
@Scott,
Great! It was a hard work to find the problem…
Hola Jesus. Is there bulk import available on the PlayBook? If yes, where can I fi it???
-pac
@pacberry,
Sure. On file browser, long tap on a folder and import all.
Hi guys!
New release should solve all the issues related to battery drain and hot and also all the issues with TTS not working fine!
please, try it and let me know it works fine now 🙂
Thanks to Phillip for sending me his Passport to test and find the issue 🙂
Wow! That was fast! Thanks much. I’ll deal with it. It’s not a huge deal. I’m just thankful the stupid Playbook doesn’t go to sleep on me every 5 minutes. Also goin to try creating pdf’s that are text only. No graphics. And maybe they’ll load a little faster.
Thanks again.
I downloaded the Playepub reader since it was the only pdf reader I could find that had the option to “Stay Awake”. But, as it states on this website, it’s very slow to load .pdf files. So I converted the pdf’s to epub format. So now they open and load fast. And I can scroll through the different pages easy enough. But, when I try to zoom in on them, they won’t.
The pdfs, once they’re loaded, can be zoomed in and out easy enough. But not the epub files.
Is there a reason? Is it in my conversion of graphic pdfs instead of text pdfs? All my pdfs I need are scans of pages. Not actual word or text files.
@D.
I guess you are talking about Playbook’s version.
No, there is no way to zoom images as you need. PDF and EPUB use different processors and formats and epub one is not ready to zoom as it is not usually needed. Sorry.
If you’ve fixed the battery drain I’ll be delighted 🙂
Can’t use th Passport to read books right now because of that issue!
Well done.
Don’t suppose we would understand if you told us what was doing that?
😉
Hey guys!
Battery and text to speech issues fixed!
No more battery drains!
Hope to be approved tomorrow morning!
My wife purchased her tablet 3 years ago and not knowing anything about computers got our grandson to set it up. We don’t know what password or secret word he used and neither does he. Can you help us please
Many thanks
Bob
@bob alexander,
Is it a Blackberry Playbook?
Hi.
I’ve got problem with text to speech: every time, when I try to use this feature, aplication said There is no internet connection (and it is not true). Problem started after last and previous upgrade. I’m using BlackBerry Z30 device.
Please help
@Pawet,
It seems that the provider is blocking the service.
I’m looking on how to fix this.
been dropping new books and delating old by connecting via usb for many years . Yesterday I have delated old and coped the new books to the “books” folder in same way.
I still see the old books and none of the new books appear in EPUB?
@Wayde Carter,
Sorry but I don’t understand your issue.
What is really happening?
I just ran an update so I must be running the latest version and still I cannot get the books on the shelf. Has anybody tried it on the Passport? Like I said before I did not have any problems on my Z-10 but the same books that worked before do not work on the Passport.
@roman,
What happens when you try to open those books? Do you get any error message?
A lot of people are using a Passport without problems.
@roman,
Have you granted “shared files” permission when installed the app?
On your Passport, go to “Settings->Security and privacy-> Application permissions -> Playepub”.
Is Shared files allowed?
Well, I am glad in a way that I am not alone with the problem. Gfood to hear someone is willing to part with their Passport so you can try and diagnose! Hope you have some success.
Thansk for the quick response as always
Hi there,
I use Playepub reader version 3.1.4.1 on a Blackberry Passport with Software version 10.3.2.2474 loaded.
I don’t often read on the phone as I have a PLaybook which is a better experience. However, recently I had to resort to the Passport as my Playbook battery was flat.
After only approximately 30 minutes of reading I noticed that the Passport had become extremely hot at the top right hand side (Facing Phone) right by the volume rockers and on the back corner adjacent to the volume rockers. This is quite worrying!
Also, the battery was draining extremely rapidly, so much so that Playepub reader had, in less then 30 minutes, become the top battery user in the Device Monitor and this was after a full days use for the phone (not Playepub) This means that there is excessive battery use of course and I wondered if there had been any other reports of this issue? It does mean that I cannot use Playepub reader at this level of battery drain as it would finish my phone for the day and, possibly, damage the battery also since it should definitely not heat up in use.
I realsie that this may be an isolated incidence and may be the result of interplay between other apps or just a flaw in my unit? But I thought this was a good place to start asking 🙂
Cheers,
James
@Jame Pirie,
A few users have already reported this issue but I have not been able to finde why. It seems that it is only happening on Passport, which is absolutely strange.
One of this users is sending me his Passport to let me test the issue. I hope to find why this is happening!
How do I load a kindle ebook from my Kindle into my playepub app on my phone?
@Simon,
You can follow these steps:
http://epubee.com/kindle-drm-removal.html
I was able to get books onto the bookshelf by opening each one, then using the “back” button. Perhaps this is how it is done? Or is there a way to populate the shelves with multiple titles?
@jon lawrence,
In the file browser, long tap on any folder and “import all”.
I transferred dozens of books in the “Books” folder on my Playbook, but can’t get them onto my “bookshelf” in the Playepub interface. Thank you.
@jon lawrence,
Books have to be opened to be displayed on bookshelf.
In the interface you will see a file browser, tap in any book to open it and add to shelves.
If you can’t see file browser and have only a full screen shelve, swipe left/right to change that view.
we corresponded on August 17th, you asked me what version I was running. I just downloaded the the app again and it still does not work. It worked fine on my Z10 but on the Passport it does not work.
@roman,
Which Playepub version are you running?
Your book works fine on my device.
Are you running last release 3.1.3.1?
Is there an updare available for the playbook version
@Gilles, no there isn’t, why?
Hello!
Many thanks for an awesome app! I just want to ask whether I have to worry opening a custom made 80Mb .mobi file? I already opened a 4Mb file successfully but it took rather long and I wonder if additional space is taken by the book after extracting? If so, is it possible to store it on the sd card instead internally (or is it just a matter of “importing” the .mobi file without additional space taken?)..
Many thanks! Regards, Horac
@Horac,
Opening mobi files depende mostly on the encrypted mode used, if not encrypted it opens quickly, otherwise it might take a long time. I don’t think a 80mb is encrypted, but might be.
Books are uncompressed internaly and there is no way to change that, but after opening, you can delete the original file to free some space.
Hi, I lke to read some techincal manual while i travel (programming).
Is it possibile to add support for monospaced fonts?
Thank you
Damiano
@Damiano,
Sure, I’ll take a look into it!
