Just a follow up, I have deleted and reinstalled the app as well as conducted a power off via the volume keys various times and was able to test on a 3rd and 4th WiFi source as well still with the same “no Internet connection error’ on my BlackBerry Classic (ClassicSQC100-4/10.3.2.876)
On a positive not, the music alert for the fail is catchy and reminds me of an ol’ skool Atari joint! 🙂
Thank you so much! I don’t know what the issue could be. Additionally I am at work this morning and I am having the same issue via work’s WiFi as well. I am in the US.
I just downloaded your epub app for my BlackBerry Classic! Absolutely love it, but I am having one issue: I am unable to get my text to speech function to work. I am continuously getting the error “There is no Internet connection”, but clearly there is. (proof being i’m using my WiFi from my Classic right now as I type this) I have attempted reboots of both my device as well as modem/router and still same error. I am having ko other issue regarding my Internet at all so I am very sure this is the app and not my WiFi. Any suggestions? Thank you!
@Ashley,
This issue usually happens when the external service used returns error or it is taking too much to reply. I will take a look in case there is something wrong anyway.
Which country are
@Editor,
Yes, removing “ý” helped.
Interesting I’ve lot of books with Czech accented characters in their names and they were loaded successfully. Is “ý” problematic only or are there other circumstances?
Anyway, thank you for quick support and help.
@Petr, I don’t really know why, it’s a platform problem. I reported it to BB without any success 🙁
I really like Playepub. So, I first want to thank you for developing it. Most of my issues are with selecting text and highlighting. Sometimes I can’t highlight anything on the top line of the page. Instead of selecting it brings up the navigation bar. Other times on the top line it will show the selection, but it will be way too tall. So, when the menu appears the blue selection area overlaps on the menu. Some other times when I select text on the top line it doesn’t show any selection shading, but it will show the menu and if I choose to highlight it will highlight the entire first line.
Something else I have noticed is that after I highlight something, close the epub, and open it again, the highlighted text is now a different font. If I go to the settings and change the font the highlights all change to a different font than what I selected.
A final issue is with groups of books in my library. If a book is in a group and then I select it and choose to remove it then it leaves a broken book icon in the group that I can’t remove. Once that happens I can’t add new books Playepub. The only way I have found to resolve this is to move all the other books in that group to another group and delete the group. Then I can create the group again and move the books back and the import of books works again.
One feature request I have is for the ability to easily use multiple highlight colors in a book.
Let me know if you need screenshots or example epubs.
@Ken,
I see.
I will try to improve text selection on upper edge.
I will also look at the font change when highlighted, but I have some ideas regarding why it can be. I’ll look at it and to the remove item from collection too.
You can change highlight color from action bar settings menu, it changes the next highlights you create, the previous remain in their original color.
Hello,
Playepub is unable to import following attached e-book.
[file]http://playepub.com/files/2015/08/Drescher-Alex-Klopp-Yggredd-1-Dokonalý-obchod.epub[/file]
The EPUB has been created by calibre 2.35.0 from HTML. The HTML itself has been created from plain text using markdown 1.0.1.
System information:
Playepub version: 3.1.3.1
BB: Passport SQW100-1, OS: 10.3.1.2576
Could you please take a look where the problem is?
Thank you, Regards
Petr
@Petr,
Let me test, I’ll tell you something ASAP.
@Petr,
It’s just a problem with the file name. Remove the ý on “Dokonalý” and open it again, it should work now.
Here is one ot the books

@Roman,
Which Playepub version are you running?
That book is working fine on my Z10.
I recently changed to a Blackberry passport from Z10. I am trying to open a new book, I get a list of files but when I tap on the file I get the following:
JavaScript Allert
Some books could not be imported.
What does this mean.
Thanks
@roman, please send me one of those books to test.
Hi! I can make notes, but I can’t figure out how to read them again. When I make a note, it opens a dialog box. I type my comment. When I close the box, it leave a nice little yellow highlight so I know it’s there. But when I click on the highlighted area, nothing happens.
How do I read my note?
Thanks,
GH
@GH, from action bar menu entry “notes”.
Hi,
I have problem with high CPU usage, which results in high battery drain.
I have version 3.1.3.1 on BB Z30 OS 10.3.1.1784.
I use only prevent rotation and 24H watch settings. I am no using any kind of sync.
I hope you will find the bug causing this problem.

@Editor, thank you! I’ll test’em this or next week!
@Editor, I can install older bar file, if you can send it for me, and I can test overheating on an older version. How I remember – It must be pre-previous version of app, where n be able page animation or text to speech (or both).
@Alex,
Great! Here we go:

@Scott,
I forgot to mention, you can update, it can’t be worst 😛

@Dan,
I’ll take a look into it, thanks for letting me know.
@Editor,
I don’t believe the latest OS update was close to when the last PlayEpub update happened. I see this morning there is a PlayEpub update available (V 3.1.3.1). Should I do that?
@Scott,
Ok, I’m still investigating…
Hello There,
the battery drain on my Passport is extremely high and the device is very hot.
Battery consumption is 1% for 2 minutes reading time!
Please eliminate bug.
Thanks!
@Silvio,
If you read previous mesages, you see there is no “direct” bug. There are some people with this issue but others without.
We are still investigating the origin.
In your case:
Which OS version?
When was your last OS update?
Without Playepub, does your passport works completely fine?
How many opened books?
Any other special setting? Cloud SYnc, automatic folders, prevent stand by…
@Scott,
Unfortunately there is no way to reinstall previous versions unless you can manage with sideload a bar file, it might be some kind complicated if you don’t have some expertise.
I can provide you with the old release if you can.
Some more points… has your device updated BB10 OS recently?
Without using playepub, does it work completely fine, battery and heat?
@Editor,
Good mystery. My wife’s Q10 continues to be fine and my Q5 still gets hot and chews through the battery. Is there any way to install the previous version of PlayEpub? It seemed like this all started after the most recent update but who knows – it could have been some other update that happened at a similar time. Installing the previous would possibly point to the issue.
@Scott, @Alex,
I have not been able to reproduct those power consumptions and I’ve made lots of tests on my Z10.
These are my today tests.
I’ve made 4 tests of 30minutos runing the app changing page every 10-20 seconds, a high use.
Battery full, 100%.
Fresh install from Blackberry World, one book opened. Cloud Sync enabled.
1) 30 minute reading, 3,3% of battery consumed by Playepub
2) 30 more minute reading, 6,5%
3) 30 more minute reading, 5,2%
http://playepub.com/files/2015/07/IMG_20150707_093320.png
Total after 1 hour and 30 minutes reading in less than 2 hours, 15% of battery. Total battery consumed of 63%.
Full charge again. New test.
1) 30 minute reading, 4,2% of battery consumed by Playepub

I don’t realyy know where else too look 🙁
@Editor, flip animation – no, prevent standby – yes (but as I said – the fault not in it), many opened books – what does it mean? I read and read 3-4 books at the same time and the page always remembered by cloud sync.
@Editor,
Only one book open currently (after reinstall I only added the one I am currently reading). All setting are disabled – screen shot attached.

@Alex, @Scott,
And another one…
Are yuo using page flip animation?
@Alex, @Scott,
Another question.
Do you have many opened books?
@Editor, Cloud Sync only
@Alex, Scott,
Prevent standby on or off?
Hi, I noticed that since one of the latest upgrades I can no longer open PDF files- when I browse pdf I’d not an option This is quite frustrating. Do you plan on bringing this feature back?
@kim,
PDF support was removed with the release of version 3.0.0 on november. It was not smooth and very usable and pdf app on BB10 is quite good nowadays.
@Editor,
No cloud sync or automatic folders.
@Alex, @Scott,
With or without Cloud Sync activated?
Any special setting enabled like automatic folders?
@Alex, @Scott,
OK guys, I will investigate deeper!
@Editor, yup, phone still heating seriously in 10-15 minutes.
@Editor,
Did a reinstall on Sunday. Doesn’t seem to have changed anything. Read for less than 10 minutes and battery monitor shows 15% for today and I am still seeing the flicker and the battery is getting hot when reading.
@Editor,
More info. My wife has a Q10 and is not having issues (I have a Q5). Same OS version. She figures she has read for 1/2 hour in the last 12. Her battery monitor shows System 16%, Display 14% and PlayePub 4%.
@Scott,
Everything is completely strange.
I would try removing PLayepub and installing it again, maybe something went wrong during the last update…
Please, try it and let me know.
@Scott, @Alex,
Have you guys tried reinstalling? Any change?
@Editor,
I forgot to mention. I have also noticed an odd flicker with the display. It is very fast and barely noticeable. I have only seen it in PlayePub and only since the update. It appears to be random and not that frequent (maybe 30 seconds to a minute between) and I think it stops after I have been reading for a few minutes.
I have read for about 20 minutes today in 5 minute stints. Battery monitor is at 16% for the app over the last 12 hours (system is at 19% and display is 11%). The device gets quite hot in the 5 minutes of reading but doesn’t with any other app.
@Editor,
I am using OS 10.3.1.1865. I do not have prevent standby turned on (all options in settings in playepub are off).
@Editor , I use “prevent standby” from february =)
wow, cool! but I’ve no need to use text to speech )
@Editor,
Nope, don’t use, cuz I read in russian 🙂
I not tried to check battery when the app minimized. Maybe it eat battery too
@Alex, @Soctt,
Were you using “prevent standby” before?
I’ve made some tests and the consumption is higher when this is checked, but normal when not. This is correct as this maintains the cpu ocupied runing the app preventing it to sleep and bargage recolection. But it’s needed to avoid the screen to switch off. This is the expected result.
I cannot find any issue so far…
@Alex,
Text to speech works in most languages… including russian 🙂
@Alex,
I gues the overheating might be the right clue, that means it is doing something strange…
I’ll try to find what…
Last update does only adds text to speech, have you used it? might it be that?
@Editor ,
Both. Sometimes I close, sometimes no. But when I minimized app – the battery is okay and I have no problem with battery or screen fading.
But whet I started notice that when I read my phone start overheating – I started close app after reading.
@Alex,
When you finish reading, are you closing the app or just minimizing?
@Editor ,
I use “prevent standby” because the screen fade out while I’m reading before I read the page =) This option is always on and work fine.
10% is very much for Passport for 1 hour, especially after previously using of app.
Maybe you’re right and the problem is not in app update, but in bb10.3.2. I’ll hope you can do more tests, find and solve the problem. Thank you!
@Scott,
Which OS version are you running?
I am having the same issue on my Q5 since the last update. Used to be able to read for hours with little impact on battery (it has been awhile since I looked at the battery but it seems to me it was less than 1% – screen is a separate %). Since the last update the phone gets hot after about 5 minutes of reading and battery monitor shows 9-10%. I haven’t had an opportunity to read more than 10 minutes at one time but I am now having to charge the phone mid day where previously it would last 2 days.
@Alex,
Per your settings screen, you have the “prevent standby” option on, this means the app is always running and never goes to sleep.
On the other side, it does not seem bad to me 10% of battery after one hour of reading, to be honest, the main consumption goes on the screen and for a book reader it has to be on. I wish you had number for previous versions, but I’m pretty sure they would be similar, nothing has change regarding this kind of things for a long time.
One thing I would test is OS 10.3.2, as I have not do that and this can be a new player in the game, but for me on my Z10 everything works fine.
I’ll try to do more tests!
@Editor ,
Nope, I nothing do special with app, except the update. I’m not sure, but it may be appear in previous update, I can’t remember.
I attach screenshots with comments and with my settings.
In app I use Cloud sync only.
OS 10.3.2.440.

Hi!
Thanks a lot for your app!
I write because of the last update: after it Playepub started eating battery of my Passport a lot and started overheat the device. I don’t know what to do and I want to return for the previous version 🙂 Or download updated app without this problem. Can you help me with that?
Thank you again!
With best regards, Alex.
@Alex,
Please, let me do some tests, I have not had your behaviour.
Is there anything special you do for that?
Is yor “prevent standby” setting on?
Wanted to down load app onto my playbook and it goes and times out. Can you help me.
@Raymond Spiewak,
Installation process is on BB side, so there is nothing I can do to help you.
Have you tried contacting customer care guys?
Have just bought the app and cannot download any books. Have given the program thr correct permissions.
I hit the down arrow on the top row – I then tried the Gutenberg.org library and clicked on Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I chose HTML and the book appears on the screen but I cannot see it downloaded onto my ereader!
Any suggestions!
@David Gulliver, on libraries you have to choose an ebook format like epub or kindle. After it’s downloaded you have to open it using new book button on shelves and browsing to your device books folder.
You can open any supported ebook file using the same process from new book button.
@Jayne,
Great!
Yes, it’s needed to identify each device 🙂
Hi again! I checked my application permissions and turned on the device identifier. It’s working a treat! Thank you!
Hi,
I have problem with cp-1250 encoding. Unsupported characters missing.
@rainbof, please, send me that file to test.
