I really love this app. It’s the only one I use for epub books. However, in the recent upgrade I don’t like one of the changes. The bookmark feature worked perfectly for me the way it was. I don’t know if I am missing something, but now the highlighted words are in black and it’s impossible to read them.
I am doing a language exchange with someone, and we are reading the same book in two different languages, so I have the bookmark where I or he needs to begin or stop. With the new upgrade, I have to delete the bookmark in order to see what I am reading and then bookmark it again so, now, a one-step process has become a three-step process. Very annoying.

Since the last update, the background color of the bookmark on any page is now black thus hiding the text. Prior to update it was yellow. It is possible to hilite the chosen bookmark and then chanel the background color to something else, but this make it into 2 step process.
How can we make a chosen color the default instead of the black?

It’s a bug on last release. The fix was uploaded on thursday and is pending approval now, hope to be published in some days.

It’s not so easy.
After getting the books younwill have to remove drm protection.

Those pgxxxx.epub are Guttemberg books, you have probably downloaded them from Guttemberg library, Playepub does not download anything by itself.
Regarding search, I can not reproduce your issue, it’s working fine for me 🙁
Please, send me one of those files from your computer and let’s see what happens, I can’t think on any other way to test.
I still can’t search text. Nothing happens when I enter a word and hit return. This goes for ALL my epub files. And I can’t send a file because I can’t navigate to the book directory with your ‘upload files’ option.
Why does my library list a lot of random pages (like pg1234.epub, pg5678.epub)? I didn’t add these “files” and I’ve had to delete a bunch of them twice now.

I’m very dissapointed with your file, I’ve done thousands of tests and don’t know what could be happening. It work sometimes, but most of them doesn’t.
I will do more and more tests, I have to find the origin of the problem.
On Z10, the app works sometimes the it crashes when I start it and never works again. Then I have to un install it and reinstall it again only to work for short period of time. Why it is not stable?

Could you please give me more info about your issue? Is there a common pattern when it crashes? Are you always doing the same thing or at the same screen? Is it always with the same book?
Sorry for the inconveniences, Playepub for BB10 has been completely rewritten and it is a very complex app with many features, there might be things to improve. Please, feel free to report any bug or suggestion.
Sorry for the silly question, but whan you are looking at the books on the bookshelf, they have a little gold or sometimes green circle in the upper corner with a checkmark inside. Whar does this mean, and what is the difference between the gold circle and the green circle? Thank you for any help.

You are right, I thought it was on help.
Green means you have finished reading that book, you have reached last page.
Yellow means you have started (book is not on page 0) but not finished.

You have two steps, getting your kindle files and removing DRM on those that are protected.
Does the PlayEpub have a book size limitation.
I have downloaded a 165Mb book and I can’t open the file.
My BB Play book stalls.

There is no limit at app level but it can be a playbook memory limit. Opening and extracting such a big file can consume all available memory.
I can make some tests if you can send me the file.

Yes, current release should have support for sdcard, this is the first release supporting it so might be some issues, but should work.
App is compatible both with Playbook and Z10.

Sorry, Playepub is NOT a pdf reader, it is a book reader (even for pdf files) and has some limitations, have you read about them?

What kind of issue are you having turning pages? What happens when you tap on the left side?

I wish I had a Z10 to make some tests, but after returning my dev alpha device, I’m still waiting for a Z10, it should arrive later this month.
As per your description, files from email might be copied to any different location. Might it be the sdcard?
Do you have the option to save the files to local instead of opening? Where does it start by default?
I have a new release uploaded with sdcard support, might solve this issue. It’s still pending approval.
If you could save files to disk you could try opening from within Playepub file browser and start using it.

I don’t know whether they’re downloaded into temporary memory as all you see in the email screen is the attachment. You click on that and the little progress bar shows the download. Once that is completed it is automatically opening Playepub, but at that point nothing happens.
It is the same as if you click on a pdf it will download and then load a pdf reader by default. The default app for epub and mobi files seems to have been set to Playepub, but nothing is getting through to your app properly.
If you have a z10 take a look as I’m pretty sure it will have the same problem on your device.
Hope you can help as I really need this facility as I’m a big Calibre user.
@pat I’m not selecting anywhere to put them. I am just clicking on the attachment in the email. The epic file then downloads and automatically triggers Playepub. I’m assuming it does that because Playepub must be listed as the default epub reader. So Playepub opens and your taken straight to the bookshelf, but the book doesn’t appear.

Sounds strange.
Can those files be found at any location within Playepub’s file browser?
If you just download those file to your device folders, can then be opened and wor fine?
@Paul, are you sure you are putting the files in the right directory? You could try downloading one from PlayEpub and see where it goes?
I’m sending books to my Blackberry Z10 using Calibre via email.
The books are arriving fine in my email. When I click on the they download and this triggers Playepub to load, but none of the books I’ve tried appear on the bookshelf or open automatically. I’ve tried epub and mobi. These are not DRM ebooks. I’ve tried books and newspapers gathered via Calibre (which I love).
I really like Playepub and have used it lots over last few weeks, and so desperately want to get this working.

You have to remove drm protection before opening on Playepub.
In the home page or in help you have two recomentations of tools for removing drm.
Paid for app on BlackBerry world but it won’t let me download. Gives me error that i paid, but does not let me download. Please help.

I think there was a problem with AppWorld yesterday, I have another issue similar to this one.
From your comments, try to refresh your apps on “My World”, this use to solve this kind of issues.
If it does not work, try asking cjstomer care guys. In yiur receipt you must have an email, try it!

You can start downloading books from included libraries or search on internet for any book in epub format. Epub is the most common and used format.
I am sorry that I misunderstood the purpose of the app; I thought I could use this app to download from Amazon.

What do you mean with “won’t start”?
Did it start at any moment?
Be sure it works, there might be some issue with your installation.
Dictionary working much better now. However, I’m still having problems with search. Search works on initial try on some books, but after that it will not let me clear the previous search or un highlight the search word it found. I have to restart to search again. Also it doesn’t work sometimes on words that I know are in the text but are not such common words. The wheel just keeps spinning.
Also, I wish that I didn’t have to choose a language every time I look up a word. And I wish that after a look up or search, tapping on the page area didn’t advance to the next page. Thanks.

I think I can’t undestand your issue. After searching on dictionary, clicking outside closes dkctionary and you can start searching again, that’s what happens to me. Not sure if it’s your case.
Please, give me a sample of words you search for and wheel keeps on and let me test.

In my tests I had good performance with a maximum of 70 to 100 books depending on the books.
I’m working on improving this issue, but it’s no easy as memory is finite. When app closes is because Playbook has run out of memory, in fact if you look at it, all apps are closed before Playepub crashes.
I have tried to download a book from Amazon for kindle and the Web site states I don’t have the correct device to support it. That is why I got this program.
What am I missing…sorry

You need a kindle to buy books on Amazon.
Onece bought you could open them on Playepub, but Amazon restricts purchases to kindle owners.
You should find a library with your desired book on epub format.
Hey dude. Awesome app. Love it, but for some reason since loading quite a few books in, app seems to stall and crash. Tried reset of PlayBook, and reduced amount of books. Please help. Need to read. Thanks in advance

Sorry, it’s on my PlayBook, unfortunately my Epub files don’t show up in my documents to attach. It appears however that reloading the file helps as I’ve done that and it’s normal now.

You have to send me the file from your computer as, as you said, you can’t attatch from Playbook’s mail client.
I had a bit of a meltdown on my playbook resulting in the reinstallation of my operating system and a return to the factory installation settings. This erased my playepub reader. Of course when I went to re-install the reader it is asking me to purchase it again. Is there any way to re-install without purchasing a second time??

You shouldn’t.
Start using the same Blackberry ID. Then, on AppWorld->My World, tap on refresh button to reload your installed and uninstalled apps. Playepub should be shown there!
If nothing works, then you should ask AppWorld customer care guys as there must be some kind of issue with your account.

Yes, I agree, covers on Gutemberg books are really painfull, but as they are books free of rights, there isn’t any original cover to add.

I was afraid I had to ‘deep-dive’ into Calibre (which I kind of struggle with). Some/most of the Gutenberg books come with awful/empty covers. Doesn’t look good on my shelf and books are hard to recognize.
I remember one other reader (Aldiko I believe) which supported changing the cover.
But this is certainly no reason to switch.
See if I can improve my Calibre skills (and google for an easy howto)

It’s not really in my roadmap, you are the first one asking for it 😛
Covers are taken for the own book. You can change the default cover regenerating the book with, i.e., calibre.
Don’t expect to have such a thing in a near future, but I don’t discard the idea 😛

I was using Playepub on my Playbook for several months and all of a sudden it stopped working a couple days ago. It began freezing every time I tried to start the program and now the program won’t load any of the books I have loaded onto my Playbook. It is basically non responsive. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the it and it didn’t make a difference.

I think I may have figured it out. The one file that I was trying to send did not end in epub. It come up as a kobo file. But they are all epub in caliber. Do I have to switch the over again?
I just got this app for my playbook. I have put books on my play and am able to put my books in the app as well. But when I click on the book to open it up I get a blank page. If I click the book mark the little loading circle comes up like its going to do something nothing happens. File sharing is turned on. Am I missing a step. I have had all my book converted to EPUB from caliber. It would be so much easier if caliber recognized the playbook as a device. Any help would be great!

Suggestion – on playbook version it would be nice to see larger thumbnails for the books in my library. These old eyes of mine are starting to go……..
Question – on the bb10 platform, will your app so support the q10 as it has a smaller screen?
PS love your app, I think from a function standpoint it is a winner. The other apps that people sideload may look snazzy but aren’t sure good at function.

Regarding your question, YES. Q10 will be fully supported on next bb10 update. Screen is as width as on X10 and everything will work fine. Bb10 version of Playepub is really awesome from my point! All UI has completely been rewriten from scratch maintaining same features as on Playbook and adding some new you will see on Playbook soon.

I’m not sure of having understood your problem.
You should start reading help on this website, it will give you full knowledge of all the features.
To go back to book shelves when reading, tap on book title to show action bar and there tap on home icon.
To delete books, when on shelves, make a long tap over one of them to enter editing mode.

I did a mistake in my previous message.
It can’t be done on Playbook, it’s not a problem with Playepub, it’s a Playbook’s lack.
Blackberry 10 will solved this issue, in fact Playepub for BB10 comes with this feature 🙂

What do you mean with “associate”? Is it open Playepub when you tap on a compatible file or something like that?
If is it, it can’t be done in Playepub, you have to open them from within Playepub.
I cannot open the ereader as I apparently did not give the file permission. How do I fix this?
