I purchased epub to enable me to read kindle formatted downloads. I am getting an error message on a book that I purchased indicating it may be DRM-Protected. Does this mean that I will not be able to read any books that I purchases?
@Shelia,
Kindle books are usually protected.
You have to remove protection before being able to open in any other device or app, not only Playepub but any.
On web home you have two tools that might help you to remove drm. See on http://playepub.com
I am trying to bulk import my epubs. It keeps locking up on books that have already been loaded. It says there is an error and the books might be drm-protected. They are drm-free. The problem is that the app freezes. It won’t import any more books, or in fact do anything else. I have to shut it down.
@Bill,
Does it stops always on the same books?
Can those books be opened invidually?
Does it happen ALWAYS with already opened books?
Hi, would it be possible to have a time keeper of some sort tracking how long you have been reading a book? Sort of like in rpg games, I read slow and would like to track this. Thanks
@Adam marsalek,
I have never thought about it, something like gamifying the reading experience.
I’ll take a look into it for a future. Do you know any other app with similar features?
I purchased this app for my blackberry playbook because it looked like the best ehub r eader going but after I purchased it and I still have the receipt it did not download and it says purchase!what do I do?
@Tina,
It must be an AppWorld refresh issue.
From “My World” in AppWorld, tap on Refresh list button to update your installed and purchased apps.
Look to the button again, can you install?
@Ray,
Have you asked AppWorld customer care guys?
It’s very very strange!
Since I received my repaired Playbook I cannot download your player therefore I am asking to be taken off the email chain and I will use Moon reader instead!!
I purchased PlayEpub reader and used it only a couple of times.
I tried it again offline opening a pdf file but the application does not open (AppWorld/PlayEpub..)
Is it designed to be like that? That would not be good.
Or is it supposed to work offline as well and I need to figure out what settings I need to change for my BB Playbook?
Thank you
Ion
@ Ion,
Everything works offline, you should not have any problem.
But reading your comment, you rare talking about PDF files.
PDF support has some limitations as you can read here:
http://playepub.com/quick-help/pdf-file-format/
If your file is too big, or very graphical you can experiment very big opening times. Anyway, it will take some time to load…
I have my bookcase showing on the screen with the opened books. I try swiping right to left or left to right to get to the file browser so I can open other books and it just stays at the bookcase.
@Cathy,
What happens when you swipe your finger left/right on shelves?
I can’t seem to get the file browser, either half or full. Help!
@Caty,
Have you tried swipping left/right on main screen?
Hi,
This is not a big issue but since two updates ago (started with the update prior to this one) when I turn the page in two column mode with no page animation half the screen goes white for a split second during the turning of the page. This might have been caused by your trying to accelerate page turning speed. Again no big issue since the reader works fine but a bit annoying since that didn’t happen before that update (I waited before mentioning it because I thought you knew and would fix it with this update but still same problem).
Thanks and still best reader out there!
@Peter,
I can’t see what you said in action, mpoerhaos I have not fully understood it.
Does your issue happen with any book? Does it happen always changing page?
I usually use Playepub in your same way, two columns without animation and don’t see that effect.
Could you please provide me more details?
So I downloaded this app, converted my kobo books to epub and put them in my books folder. They show up on my playbook, in the library app however when I open the books its all funky characters… What’s up?!?! I’m on the playbook…
@Pam,
It seems as if those books were DRM-protected, Kobo books usually are.
Try removing protection before converting, I think doing after might remove some important information.
Two issues – going to a bookmark or comment always brings me to one page past the actual location that it should be going to. Also – although comments are stored, when I return to one (always one page out as noted)it has lost its colored highlight.
@EdM,
Let me do somke tests and let you know.
Does this happens with any of your books? It’s very strange nobody hasn’t reported it before…
I used PlayePub to locate and purchase an ebook on ebook.com only to find out after much troubleshooting that they don’t support download to blackberry. Any suggestions about how to get the book downloaded onto my BlackBerry Playbook for reading?
@Mike Bain,
I’m not an ebook.com user, but from their website I read:
That should be the way, but think about two important things:
1) Which format are the books in? Is it supported by Playepub? If not you will have to convert them to a supported one.
2) I’m pretty sure those books are drm protected, you will have to remove protection before being able to use on playbook.
Ok, thats all I ask. Your’s is the best multi-format reader I have found for the playbook. All the others I have found focus on one and ignore all the rest. I can look at more converters to find one that may work in the meantime. Thanks.
Hi.
I have ebooks in “.lit” format. Converting them removes all paragraphs and carriage returns, and so is unworkable. I would like to see your app be able to open these files. Can
you add this functionality to it? Thanks for listening.
Tom
@Tom,
I add it to my list of future features, but don’t expect to see something in the first half of the year. It’s a hard feature, investigate format, create parser, etc. and it’s a format with a very small market.
Have you tried any other converter? Perharps others do a better job.
Hi,
Thanks for your quick reply!
I don’t mind that swiping moves an entire chapter, but the direction is wrong.Swiping from right to left should move to the next chapter; swiping from left to right should move to the previous chapter. That’s more intuitive.
As far as the clock is concerned: when reading in bed, I don’t want to see the clock 😉
Cheers,
WP
@WP,
OK, I understand now. The problem it’s been that way since the begining and changing it now will change the user experience for thousands of users.
Sorry but I don’t expect to have it changed.
Hi,
When I swipe from right to left, I would expect to move to the next page (as in a real book). However, the previous chapter is displayed.
Ditto for swiping left to right.
Is there an option to switch off the clock in the menu bar?
Cheers,
WP
@WP,
Playepub works that way. Tap changes page, swipe changes chapter.
Sorry but there is no option to hide clock, it’s fixed at that position. Does it bother you while reading?
Great – glad you could find the reason. Thanks for the fast help!
@Steffen,
I’ve tested your credentials and found a BUG on last release with Instapaper accounts, it’s adding an “f” at the begning of passwords.
@Editor,
i’m using my gmail-address.
@Steffen,
I could do some tests with your credentials if you don’t have anything confidential on your account.
Could you please Let me know the setting for email. I have a Gmail account and is ambtenaren not duren what pop3 setting to use.
@Anurag,
You have to have pop3 access enabled on your gmail account settings.
Server: pop.gmail.com
Port:995
USE SSL
use your full email address as username.
@Editor,
my Instapaper Account is a payed account.
Modes: Thanks, great 🙂
@Stefen,
I’ve tested mine and works fine.
Do you have an account with username or email?
Hi!
Nice reader. My main reason to buy it was it’s support for instapaper – however, I’m unable to login. I even changed my instapaper password but I only get the “wrong username or password” message. Any help is appreciated.
One other question: I currently see the bookshelf along with the file browser – is there any way to hide the file browser?
Best
Steffen
@Steffen,
Only paid Instapaper accounts can be used from third party apps. I think it’s about 1$/year. You can also try Pocket, same service but free.
To change home screen, swipe left/right to see different modes.
I have a file folder that i put all my ebubs into but when I open PlayEpub it does not recognize them. Why?
@Scott,
Do you see file browser in Playepub or are you only seeing shelves?
If seen browser, can you see Playbook’s folders?
It doesnt really function good with pdf files. It doesnt open those files. But otherwise it s ok.
Hi Koray,
Have you read about PDF support and limitations?
http://playepub.com/quick-help/pdf-file-format/
Anyway, if you find any PDF that can’t be open, don’t hesitate to send it to me to make some tests.
Got it! Thank you!!
I need to know how to change my permission setting in my epub. When I purchased it I unchecked the allow permissions not realizing that they would need to be checked. Thanks for your help.

@chic scaparo,
Please, check out first point on FAQ’s
http://playepub.com/faq/
It’s OK. I’ve finally found the folder with the books!
Sorry to have bothered you.
Best regards,
Paul
I purchased your epub reader. I cannot find any ebooks on my playbook using your program. But I have PDF. Epub. Mobi (drm removed). It is not an issue with security the playbook. I have allowed all files in security.
Also, I cannot seem to be able to download free books from gutenberg or anywhere else from within your program. The timer just keeps going around and around but nothing ever downloads.
What am I doing wrong?
@Paul Smith,
What do you see on file browser? Do you see main Playbook folders?
@Doug Dirksing,
You were right, there was an issue with some books loading title/author.
It will be solved on next release, maybe on one or two weeks.
@Doug Dirksing,
Please, upload one of those files and let me test what happens.
@Pilar Esteras,

I have converted all my pdf files to epub using caliber. I have two readers,Playepub and Reader. Playepub does a better job of handling spaces between paragraphs and displaying text overall. The only thing that it mixes up is the number of spaces after a an apostrophe. If a word like you’re is displayed it looks like you’ re. My other reader does not do that. Is it a conversion problem or a glitch in the reader? Still happy overall with the performance of playepub.
@Pilar Esteras,
Gracias.
@Pilar Esteras,
Has probado a reiniciar Playepub, por si acaso?
@Pilar Esteras,
Has probado a copiarlo en otra carpeta distinta a books o incluso renombrarlo?
@Pilar Esteras,

I purchased this to read my extensive pdf letter format book collection. First I would like to say that I like some of the features such as making the pages sephia. That plus lowering the brightness makes for pleasant non fatiguing reading. The reader for my purposes lacks an important feature. Each book in the list only appears on the shelf after opening and is displayed as untitled and undefined. I am unable to search for titles using the search function. I have over 500 books in this format. I need the app to put all the books on the shelf and be able to search titles. I also noticed. The search text function does not work. I am attaching a sample file. I appreciate this would be a lot of work. I do not know if this is something you are working on already. If you do not have plans to enhance pdf features just let me know. I will look for another solution. Thanks.

@Doug Dirksing,
As you know, pdf support has some limitations right now.
I’ll take a look to your title/author comment, there must be an issue.
Regarding text search, it’s not on my short term plans, but it’s on long term ones. This means I want to make it work but will not probably be during next three months at least.
I’m having problems with deleting a book. After deleting it, it continues to remain in the book shelf.
@Eleanor,
I guess you deleted the file from outside Playepub, this way that book is not removed from shelves, you have to remove it from there.
If you delete the file from Playepub’s file browser it will be also deleted from shelves.

I don’t know how to access epub doc downloaded from gutenberg. I can’t get off this page and to Downloads.
@Njoy,
Swipe your finger left/right to change between file browser and shelves.
I used an unDRM file of the Fifty Shades Freed book from Kindle but when I want to open it using PlayEpub it clases the app.
@Adrian Alvarez,
Please, attach that file and let me do some tests.
Just downloaded Playepub for my wife’s Playbook. Works great and it was recommended by my brother who you have corresponded with recently.
Do you have or know of an equivalent for the iPad? I have an iPad 1, the original
Thanks
Doug Smith
@Doug Smith,
I’m very glad reading your comment 🙂
I don’t know much about ipad but, is not iBooks similar to Playepub?
I just downloaded a book thru playepub (kobo)and cannot find it. It doesn’t show up in playepub library or in kobo library. Any advise you can give me will be appreciated.
@Allan Holister,
As far as I know Kobo books can only be read from within kobo app. What file type is your downloaded book?
Hello,
When I am finished with a book, it comes back all the time.
I cannot return to the main menu from within the book.
Restarting PlyEpub gives a short glims of the bookshelf and the library list and switches immediately through to the last read (finished)book.
The only solution to get rid of this book is to remove the program and reinstall it, which is really annoying.
Only this way I can start with a fresh book.
I hope that there will be a solution!
Furthermore I like your reader very much!
Regards,
Thomas Kuipers
