Thanks. I have tried to upload a couple of the pdf files but get an error window pop up to say one can only upload certain file types (including pdf). I have checked the files and they are definitely pdfs with .pdf extension. Can I get them to you any other way?

I have a problem with some PDFs which I transferred via USB to my PlayBook. The first few pages display fine, then nothing. This is a common problem with Adobe Reader on PlayBook which does not fully display some PDFs, depending on how they were orignally created. As I have several hundred archive files which have this problem I don’t want to have to spend time re-saving them all (which is the only known way to overcome the problem). Please could you let me know if PlayEPub will display all PDFs correctly and fully, regardless of how they were created?

I think you will never.
I joined to the program to be able to, but license is about 30k $/year, completely outside of my possibilities.
Simple, it’s a question that the program cannot handle large files efficiently and I have many of them. Epub files with 1000+ pages.
I am having problems opening big epub files. Very slow, sometimes dead slow. When opened after all, flipping pages are very slow. The problem is only when using big files. Need to fix

Unfortunately it is not possible, they are completely different systems.
It will be compatible with Blackberry 10 🙂
I am experiencing the same problem as Sarah, when i start the program before all the books are loaded it boots me out. This started after last update.

Try removing and installing Playepub again. Let’s see what happens.

My suggestion is to just remove Playepub from your PlayBook and install it again, something went wrong during last update process on your device.

When converting a file (with Calibre) for the playbook… what is the optimal format to use for the playbook? Such as converting a Mobi or PDF to ePub?

It’s always best to choose “epub” as it’s a non-propietary format and will work fine.

I just purchased the app. It’s really nice except that I really wish you could make the left and right margins larger, if you had a slider just like the spacing slider that made the left and right margins move in a bit, it would be great. It’s nice that you can increase vertical spacing, but there’s no way to add some more white space at the left and right margin, which would make the page layout much nicer for reading.
On an e-reader device like the kindle, you have a white or light gray border. On playbook, it’s black around the screen, and that makes it look like there’s no margin around the text, and paper books need 1 inch of margin. On an ebook, at least 1/4″.

well i press on epub app.to read a book and it goes slow,books start to load on shelf…almost there…then it boots me out so i have to press epub app. again. i tried to press a random book , it starts to load, i get 2% and it boots me out still. very strange normally no issue
Good day..my beloved Epub keeps booting me out every time I try to either view my list of books or try to load a new book to read. Anyone else having this issue?

i have just installed playepub, but just after the front page, I get permission error message. “playepub can not read your shared files. you have probably denied file permission when you installed playepub. please check this” I cannot see how to check this. please advise. I can’t access my books.

It seems there’s a problem importing book from Gutenberg directly from Playepub. When I try to download the book, the green circle freezes and the download progress bar stays at zero. However, the file is downloaded: I can find it in the Download folder and can import it manualy in Playepub. So, it’s seems that, for some reason, Playepub doesn’t see that the file is downloaded and wait for it forever.
Do you have any knowledge of this issue ?

There is something I’m currently missing in the application – is the ability to turn pages holding PB in the left hand.
Only option now to change the page is to touch right side of the screen, and it’s not comfortable to do when you hold PB in the left hand.
Is there any possibility that turning pages schema will be customizable in the future?

Some additional details to the dictionnary issue mentionned above:
-The english dictionary works fine
-I try with different french ebooks and the dictionary doesn’t work with any of them.
-The Playepub version is 1.8.15.
When I try the dictionary in french, I don’t get any definitions. Playepub seems to search for a few seconds (blue circle rolling), then just shows the word I asked in the window without anything else. I’ve try with many words and even very common ones don’t give any results.
Is it a problem with the software or just that the feature isn’t implemented yet ?
BTW, the internet connection works fine. So, this is not an issue due to the Playbook beign offline.

For instapaper, does it have to be a PAID account, or is a free account sufficient? There are other apps that work with instapaper and don’t require a paid account with instapaper.

Subscription accounts
Most of the Full API’s methods require the authenticating user to have a Subscription account.
Only these methods may be used for users without a Subscription:
/api/1/oauth/access_token
/api/1/account/verify_credentials
/api/1/bookmarks/add
/api/1/folders/list
Effectively, any application that only needs to add pages to someone’s Instapaper account, like a Twitter client or RSS reader, can function completely with these methods, and therefore does not require its users to have Instapaper Subscriptions.
I get an error saying “Wrong username or password” when trying to set up my Instapaper connection. I know the username and password are correct, and I tried multiple times.

I’ve been poundung on it for about an hour, and so far it’s solid. I tried to reproduce the PDF problem that I reported, but it’s not happening now, so I don’t know what’s up with that.
BTW, I personally prefer the white-on-blue selection highlight in the bookmark dialogue – it looks better and is much easier to read (for me).

Hi there. I have version 1.8.10.
I’m having an issue where when the app is in portrait mode I can’t see ALL my books. When it is in landscape mode, they all appear. When I go back to portrait, it goes back to now showing them all.

I purchased this product to read religious epub format documents but am very disappointed. There are scripture references that when clicked often do not take you to the correct reference and if they do don’t place the scripture at the top of the pages. MoonReader is free and does an excellent job. Too bad because yours has a nice look and feel. Let me know if you would like me to send you a file and if you solve it soon.

You don’t have to pay again, no, It must only be a refresh issue on AppWorld and should be solved restarting your playbook-
As a senior who likes to learn new things, I bought your app but have trouble with just loading one epub book. I cannot get the main screen up with the load more ebooks option. I use “rst” on the keyboard to rest the buffer or something. I know one does not have to pay if one delete it on the same PB tablet and then reinstall it. When I tried that I could not have PlayEpub in the “reinstalled” column. When do I do next or should I try another ereader app for Playbook.
Hi, I didn’t allow file access when I install the program, and now I’m unable to allow file access. Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn’t work to allow access. What can I do to be able to usethe app?

Have you checked first point on Faq’s to give it? Close and restart Playepub after changing.
I cannot remove my bookmarks. The x is there but does not respond to tapping.

My playbook will not do the upgrade. So I went to reinstall it and now it will not let me do anything With play epub, very frustrating, any ideas??

Does the file exists in the folder when viewing from your PC?
Can you see the file with any Playbook File Manager?

I transfered an epub book to the books folder from my pc, but I can’t see it in the playepub library or anywhere else on my PB. File access has been allowed for this app, so can’t figure it out. Any help?
The problem of the app not opening is solved and the app works well again. The solution wasn’t through a reboot or anything I did; it just started working again and now I’m back to being very happy with the app.
I’ve updated to 1.8.10 and il has solved the “infinite loading” problem.

Don’t reinstall, you won’t loose anything.
Yeah, I know what you go through, and I don’t know how you manage it. That’s why I suggested a support forum, where more experienced users could help out. The BlackBerry forum is fine, but is very large, and can be very impersonal. I don’t participate in large corporate forums.
For every negative comment, I see a lot more people here who are dedicated users, and are willing to give you the opportunity to fix problems. I’m sure that most people who post negative reviews don’t evenj come here to find a problem resolution.
I have used other readers, including Moon, and I find that PlayEpub gives a better balance of features and useability. Moon, for example, while it has many more options and features, has a lousy user interface which I find thick, confusing, and frustrating. Anything that gets between me and my reading is bad, and I have no patience for it.
I think I speak for a lot of your users when I say DON’T GIVE UP!!! Maybe people here could make sure that they post positive review on AppWorld to offset the negative ones. I have.
Keep up the good work, people do appreciate your efforts.

Hi guys – I found the solution to the problem I posted where it seemed to upgrade I had to pay again, although I had already paid for the app.
Just go into App World/Myworld/ and hit “Refresh List”, this will solve it (I have two PlayBooks and it solved it for both). Saw other people had the same problem, hope this will help.
Ok and now I can tell the editor: you app is so good I would have paid again twice for it (both my and my wife’s playbooks) without blinking! You came out with this updated 1.8.10 version in record time, hang in there and keep up the good work!

You must be older than me, but after 15 years of career and having worked on hundreds of projects as a developer or as a team leader, this is by far my worst experience. I have even received things like this:
“I would be interested to know who decided to release this upgrade without doing proper checks on it.”
At least this one took his time to look for support instead of a bad review.
It’s only me who does everything here, I have no help, and this is not my full time job, I do this in my spare time. I don’t get paid for the real time I spend on it, I just do it because I like it. First release of Playepub was for my own, I had my Playbook on April 2011 and I missed an app to read as I did on my kinddle, there wasn’t no one. Then it grew up till what it’s now with all the work involved, not only programming but also support, web, answering other forums, explore new features, watch competitors… and of course, testing.
Perhaps it’s too much job for the result. I’ll take some time to think about it.
After being a programmer for thirty years, I can tell you that, no matter how careful you are, stuff happens. Some people aren’t very patient, and like to give you a hard time for everything – all that you can do is ignore them and do the best you can. Don’t let things discourage you – PlayEpub has made great progress since I have started using it – you don’t make progress without SOME glitches.
