When I try to open an epub from file manager instead of navigating to it using PlayEpub, it won’t load – Playbook seems unaware that it has a program that can open that file. Howcum?
I purchased/downloaded an epub book. It opens fine and I get through the initial contents and intro stuff, and it hangs when I try to turn to the first page of the first chapter. I can click turn page again and get to a certain point a few pages before the second chapter, but I missed most of the first chapter. It happens in both direction at start and end of that block of “missed” pages. I verified with a reader on my PC that the content is in the file, but I can’t get to it on the playbook.

Changing the POP3 server worked perfectly. I’m embarassed that I didn’t notice it. C’est la vie.

O.K. While you’re at it, could you change the config pages so that the keyboard doesn’t pop up every time you touch the screen, even if it’s not an entry field? And get rid of spell check (on config page)? It’s a real pain. Thanks, man.

Oh shit, I got it!
Your pop.Gmail.com has to be “pop.gmail.com”, in lower, otherwise the SSL certificate does not match the host.
Try it!
I’ve already changed the code to always convert host to lowercase.

I don’t know what could be happening. Same settings work fine for me.
If you don’t have personal email, I can do some tests with your account, otherwise I can not test anything 🙁
I dunno. I’ve tried variations on the email config, but no go. It seems to be connecting to Gmail, but isn’t receiving the verification that it’s looking for.
PlayBook Mail, Outlook, Gmail notifier all work, no problem, same config. I don’t get it.

I have the same configuration and works fine.
Have you enabled POP3 from your gmail account?
I’ve entered the information for my Gmail account into the PlayEpub settings page, but when I press the “Test Login” button, I get the busy cursor, and it never returns. Is there some trick that I’m missing? I tried changing the port, but it didn’t make any difference.

Few times. I also changed to shelf view, still none of the books can be opened.
I have about 100 books, maybe less.
Could it be a virus?

I don’t know what could be happening.
You should best reinstall Playepub, remove and install it again and let’s see what happens.

I can not open any of the books stored in the PlayEPub.It stoped working after downloading few more books. I can see them on the shelf but it will not open.

What kind of books are them (epub, kindle…)?
How many opened books do you have?
What if I missed to allow “File access” permission when installing PlayEpub. So the app can not read my files. Is it possible to repair this problem or I have to buy the app more times? Can I reinstall app and change the permission? Explain it to me please.

Yeah, but it took me all afternoon to delete 600+ books, I was sure that I had seen the option in a previous version. Oh, well.

Is there any way to clear the entire bookshelf all at once – that is, delete all of the books on the bookshelf? I have too many books on the shelf, which makes PlayEpub slow and unpredictable – the program just exits with no message.
Now that calibre supports the PlayBook, I can easily trasnfer the books that I want to read, so I don’t need so many on the shelf.

I think the best option would be to uninstall app and then install again.
Anyway new deleting mode is much faster than old one, have you tried?
I have a question I would like answered. I recently purchased a Blackberry Playbook and purchased the “E reader epub” app and ordered a kindle e book from amazon.com. and could not import the book on this app.
If I subscribe to your “playEpub book reader” will i be
able to order e books from amazon.com ? Thanks

No “comercial” book can be opened inside Playbook as there is no app supporting DRM.
You should first remove DRM protection, then you will be able to open it.

Just got your app and I really love that I can link it with Calibre and read my books. I also really like the look of it. One problem: can I download to the bookshelves (which I prefer to use)all of my ebooks at once or am I restricted to downloading each book one at a time? I must say it’s a bit of nuisance to download single titles as I have a lot of books. Am I missing the incredibly obvious?

Copy all of them to the same folder and then, on file browser, long tap over the folder and “Impor all”, that’s all.

Oh, whoops! I swear I searched through this site before finally submitting my question. I found the answer. The swiping thing to open and close the file explorer is very cool, just not very obvious. (That also explains how I lost it on accident without knowing how I did it.) Thanks again. Sorry for not finding the solution earlier.
Hey there, The button that opens the file explorer has disappeared somehow. I have restarted the app and restarted the PlayBook, but it is still missing. There is a blank space where it should be next to the button that switches it between bookshelf view and list view. Help! I can’t get to my books! Thanks for all your hard work on this app.
When I get a new software release, I ALWAYS read the release notes – apparently, most people don’t because I see you answering the same questions over and over again. Have you considered a support forum? It would help free your time for the important work. 😉

Just swipe left/right to change display mode between full shelf, middle shelf/middle browser, full browser.
The latest version 1.8.6 reader seems to be back to normall now . But I cannot see my books in a bookshelf mode (which I prefer ) it only shows books in a list form is there any way i can show the books in a bookshelf mode.
This is a great ereader app I can read all my books.

The correct flow should be to first delete whole original highlight and then create another one with only the portion you need.
Highlights work as a whole, so if you try to delete just one portion, app will try to find any highlight starting and ending at the same points, as it does not exist, no highlight is changed.
okay lets say for example I highlighted a paragraph. But decided I didn’t want the whole paragraph highlighted. So I only delete the content I don’t want highlighted. Now everything looks fine to me and I’m happy about it. So I continue on reading to the end of the chapter and start into a new chapter. when I go back to the previous chapter and go back to the paragraph I mentioned above what I see is the whole paragraph is highlighted. It’s like I never made any corrections at all to that paragraph. Is this a glitch?
Okay so you’re not fussy on all books automatically being downloaded on the left side but what about having some way of knowing if the books have already been downloaded so you don’t have to keep going back and forth.

Hi, love your application I use it every day. I have all the latest updates, but I still cannot get bookmarks to work. It will consistently high lite several pages or the whole chapter, very annoying. If I pick a sentence in the middle of a paragraph it will usually work OK.
To get rid of the high lighted area I turn on Sepia and then turn back to day lite.
Hope there is a cure.

This happens because it can not detect end of sentence, its hard on some scenarios.
To prevent this the best would be to always set init and end points by yourself, to be sure leave the last letter unselected, it should work always.

Just make a long tap over any opened book and you will enter into deleting mode. Click again on any booknto go back.
After downloading the latest upgrade I cannot read some words on the right hand side of the pages. Some of the letters appear on the next Page. I have changed font size and tried spacing sentences but. This does not work. It means I have to guess some of the words. Most of the books I read are kindle books. This happened straight after the upgrade, is there anything I can do to resolve this issue

Thank you for response and deleted the highlights but when I jump into a new chapter for some reason all the deleting I did looks like it never happened. So I tried again to delete what I didn’t want and the same thing happen again. So is there a way to correct this? Or am I doing something wrong?
Is it possible to either show the books on the right side that have been read by either highlighting it or an asterisk or once they have been downloaded into PlayBook that it can automatically show up on the left side.

Sorry but I think that is not a good idea. Take me as an example. I have hundreds of book files in my Playbook but I don’t want all of them to be opened, I just want to have the opportunity to open any of them if I want, but I don’t need to have a shelf with 1000 books, it will take a lot to load and I will never open the most of them.

Do the same as for setting the highlight but instead of adding hilight you will see the icon with an “X” meaning deleting it.

Since update 1.8 and 1.8.6 I get half a screen of the bookshelf and half a screen with file browser. How can I close the file browser and just have the bookshelf displayed. I don’t want the file browser window open at the same time as the bookshelf view.

There is an issue on PB OS related to progress download, but unless it does not show any progress, downloads are being completed, just wait some time to let them finish and check your “downloads” folder, books should be there.
Alternatively you can even use native browser for the same purposes.
