After updating this morning, the lines run off the screen. Very frustrating! I’m in the middle of a book and the further I read the worse it gets. I tried opening other books and have the same problem. Please help.
@Alison,
Sorry for the inconveniences.
I’ve uploaded the fix but RIM has not still approved it, hope to be ready on monday.
Thanks!
Kelley
Hi everybody!
I have the “page break” issue solved.
It will be published on monday.
Sorry for the inconveniences just starting the weekend 🙁
@Kelley, @Joseph, @Mike james,
I’m looking at that problem. Let you know something ASAP.
@Andy Stanford,
I uploaded the fix yesterday, it’s still pending approval by RIM, I don’t expect they do until tomorrow.
Sorry for the inconveniences.
Although the problem is much better with a smaller font, it still occurs to a lesser degree. The further I read into the book, the worse it gets.
It seems to be a problem with the calculation of the font metrics – how many characters can fit on a line. The miscalculation causes the text to overlap onto the next page. If you’re using an API for this, it may be a bug in a library routine.
Whatever the cause, I hope you get it solved quickly. It’s extremely annoying.
This did not occur with the previous version.
Kelley
Problem with overlapping pages was resolved by doing what Kelley did by deleting and reloading the book.
I have been using Playepub for over a year and have watched some amazing evolution in the software. The latest upgrade rendered “the message bible -daily reading” unusable. I tried other books I have with no problem but this one seems to be messed up. Thanks for a great product.
It seems that Joseph is having the same issue that I have – although I can see the chapter numbers at the top of a new chapter page.
Kelley
Hi, since I have updated to version 1.8 I can no longer open any pdb files. Epubs work okay but pdb files come up with an error “error on line 1 at column 1. Document is empty”
@Joseph,
Still don’t know what numbers you are talking about,it depend on each book.
Send me the file you are talking about, please.
@Kelley,
Very strange. I’ll try to make more tests to try to reproduce that issue.
Thank you for your prompt reply. I am referring to the chapter numbers at the beginning of each chapter in a book. Also, I have noticed that in both portrait and landscape mode the pages progressively begin to overlap. The pages from previous pages begin to show up on the edges of the current page.
O.K., I seem to have solved the problem. It has something to do with the font size. I use a large font because I have3 very poor vision (that’s why I got the PlayBook).
I deleted my book, them re-imported it, and the problem disappeared until I reset the font size to my normal reading size. When I backed the size down, and restarted PlayEpub, the problem was gone.
Hope that helps.
Kelley
On further investigation, I have found that the problem does not occur in landscape mode, only in portrait mode.
Kelley
Had one more image, but apparently you have an upload limit. Oh, well.
Kelley
After installing the new version, I selected my current book from the bookshelf. That’s it. I have tried other books, changing font type and size, line spacing, everythijng that I can think of – even rebooted my tablet – but the problem persists.
With book cover images, the right edge of the image is on the next page. When you page forward, you get a blank page, and cannot proceed unless you use the “next chapter” gesture.
In fact, it seems that the problem is that every page is offset to the right. If you were using C language, I would say that you have a bad pointer.
I’m using a 16GB PlayBook with the latest OS. No jailbreaks.
I am attacjing more captures.

I just upgraded and the chapter numbers do not show up any longer.
@Joseph,
What do you mean with chapter numbers? What option are you talking about?
Just installed v1.8, and now get page corruption with ePubs. Attaching ePub and capture image.

@Kelley,
Can not reproduce your issue.
Could you please tell me more info on how to?
Thank you for the rapid response! Looking forward to the update.
@Michael,
Found the issue!
I have just uploaded a new release, hope to be published tomorrow!
Thanks!!!!
Just updated to version 1.8 and have lost the ability to read any of my .prc book files. Every chapter is now 1 Page long and there are no words on that page. Help would be appreciated, as there was no problem with .prc files before this update.
One of my most used apps. Keep up the good work.
@Michael,
Please, atach any of that files and let me test.
Hey guys!!
Here is the new update:
Novelty for you, my old customers 🙂
Added EXPERIMENTAL and alpha PDF support!
You can now open any PDF file and read inside Playepub, it’s still very slow loading the document, but after it’s loaded you can read and change pages quite well.
This is an ebook reader and pdf support is meant for pdf book files, I mean, text files.
It will be very slow with files with many graphical elements.
PDF is a page-based format so, while in a page you must scroll up/down for reading whole page. Tap left/right sides as usually for previous/next page and use the center portion of the screen to scroll.
Playepub will remember last opened page and scroll position, you will always be at the same position.
What in Playepub does not work with pdf?
Text selection and night mode. You can still add bookmarks and notes (writing you own text), just make long tap on the sides of the screen, not in the middle. Try it!
Please, send me any feedback (good or bad) regarding PDF support. I’m working on improving it 🙂
Hey, great job on the reader. Working great on my playbook. Will you be adding cbr to the list? As well, adding the .lit would be fantastic. If not, great work.
Thanks!
@Deanna,
Thankyou for your feedback.
I thought on CBR support, but its a format with a very different user experience so I decided to forget about it, there are good comic reader app’s for Playbook.
Regarding LIT format, read this:
I downloaded the app and followed instructions to set up my Gmail account. This is how I will receive my epub documents. I have some epub files and cannot locate them on my playbook. Most people using this. Apparently state that the books will show up. Not sure where Iwent wrong but any help is appreciated so I can start reading the books
@Katharine,
After settings your mail account you have to launch sync. On home screen tap on last icon to start looking for books files on your mail account.
Downloaded files will be saved into “Books/mailed”.
Regards.
I love PlayEpub. It works well and looks great. Best Epub reader that I’ve used.
One suggestion. In the library bookshelf view. it would be nice if it was possible to return to the last book that you were reading by tapping on the title bar, similar to the Kobo app. I have a large ebook collection, and if I return to the bookshelf view for some reason, it’s a problem finding my book, again.
A;so, a question. Is there any way to view the metadata embedded in an Epub by calibre?
Thanks for the great app! Keep up the good work.
Kelley
@Kelley,
Thanks for your feedback!
Regarding las opened book, have you tried sorting opened books by date? That’s what that button does, shows first last opened books.
I have no plan at short term in showing calibre metadata, but it’s in my todo for a future 🙂
Regards!

use “eBook Converter – for ebook personal bought” http://www.ebook-converter.com and have used it for almost 3 years now. The issue seems to have just occurred with your last update, but then again I am relatively new to your product.
I have sorted the previous problem out now – I reinstalled it, so ignore last comment.
Thanks
I have the same problem as
”
PAID for the application. Downloaded and installed..but NO icon on the desktop. Followed instructions for this problem and still NO icon. Very frustrated and upset that I have paid for something and cannot use it. Feel ripped off..”
I paid by paypal, and it’s not shown up. Please contact me to provide a refund or I will raise a dispute with paypal.
Can I open a DRM protected book? I bought it for a class but can only open it on my pc and I only take my playbook to school. Is there a way to open the file?
Thank you!!!
@Ernie Campos,
You have to remove DRM protection. Try these ones:
http://www.ebook-converter.com/epub-drm-removal.htm
http://epubee.com/
When I bookmark a word or short sentence, it hi-lite all text following. Because it is hard to read with yellow fill you have to delete bookmark which defeats the
whole purpose.
@Doug,
When you select anything, be sure to “manually” adjust start and end positions. This happens when a sentence starts or ends in a page before or after the current one. If you set start and end (the important one is that going outside the page), this won’t happen.
Using browser. Works. Thank you very much. Olga
@KAren,
It sounds very strange.
Have you tried reinstalling PlayEpub?
@Olga,
Don’t worry, use your Playbook browser to download your books, it’s the same as doing it from Playepub. Just put the same url and enjoy! It will work!
I installed playepub on my blackberry PlayBook and loved it. I ended up getting a new PlayBook. Ever since reinstalling I’ve had nothing but problems – books freeze, when I open my book I’m never on the right Page and I have one book that I can’t finish because it always gets stuck.
I’m not sure. Just one of three was in downloads. It take too long and says network is unavailable in the end. I understand it is not your problem but don’t know why I should ask about. Please help if you can. Thanks. Olga
@melissa,
I found the issue. Your book declares two different codifications and when opening, it’s loosing the correct one.
I’ve solved it on Playepub ignoring encoding and forcing it. Next release will work fine (I hope so).
@Olga,
There are some issues with the progress indicator on last Playbook OS’s.
Download should work altough progress stays at 0%, just wait a little and see if files are on “downloads” folder.
Hope it works.
Thanks a lot. You app is great! I’d enjoy it till had some issue with battery – started drain. So I did security Wipe without saving data. Was happy to see your app is back. But now if I try download from any library it doesn’t work. (Application permission is done ). Any suggestions? Regards. Olga
May be able to help with translation for canadian french, german, hungarian and russian as I have friends and family who speak those.

@melissa,
Let me do some tests. Let you now ASAP
Can you tell me how to copy files to the app? I can’t find instructions on the HELP page to do that. I have books on my KOBO app and would like to copy them to PlayEpub. Thanks!
@Doreen,
Please, check this links to learn how to transfer files to and from Playbook:

Regarding Kobo, you can not extract your book files from your playbook. I don’t know y there is any way to obtain the files outside Kobo’s readers.
Thank you for your quick response. I appreciate it very much.
@melissa,
Please, attach that book and let me test, I’m pretty sure it’s protected.
instead of characters like ‘ or ” I will get different characters one is an a with an accent over it, a capital C with 2 lines horizontal lines through it and the trademark symbol
i get punctuation marks on my epubs, but when i open the same file on my computer with adobe digital editions, the book is perfect. how can i remove the punctuation marks?
@melissa,
What do you mean with puntuation marks?
I thinks it sounds S being drm protected.
Hi,
I am really pleased with the app so far. However, there are a couple of things I have problems with. I read magazines with links to references. After clicking on the link and then the back button, it takes me to the beginning of the article, not to where I was.
My other issue is bookmarking. Maybe I am missing something, but is there a way to this without highlighting? Also, how can I see a list of my bookmarks.
Thank you!
@Shaleen,
Thanks for your feedback.
Issue going back will be solved in next release, just click another time to go to origin.
Regarding bookmarks, they always add a highlight, there is no option ton hide. To show your bookmarks, when reading, tap on progress bar and select “bookmarks”. You can also see bookmarks from all of your books with the “star” icon on home screen.
I purchased the app for the Playbook. I see on the website comments about being able to move EPUB books to the app but have no idea how to get started. I can bring up the app but there are no books shown. All are still in my Kobo app and I want to move them over. Isn’t there a “get started” manual or something to get me going?
@Ron,
You have to copy some books to your Playbook. Kobo books are only accesible through Kobo app.
You can read “Help” section to make an idea on how Playepub works.
@James Davis Nicoll,
Sorry but it’s not possible, books depend on many different files and page size is nearly impossible to guess.
That’s the utility of “%” reading info.
This may sound stupid but the version of Epub reader I downloaded does not seem to have page numbers. Is there some way to implement that so I get a sense of how far into the book I am?
